Jisch Schueren 6th Dan Aikikai Shihan and his wife Dilette visited our dojo from 11-13 October 2024.
J.J. (Jisch) Scheuren, born on 8 April 1955 in Luxembourg, holds the Rokudan Aikikai (6th black belt) in Aikido. He was initially a successful swimmer and water polo player before taking up karate in 1981 and switching to aikido at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich in 1982. After returning to Luxembourg as a professor in 1983, he actively trained in aikido with several well-known teachers and founded the Kopstal-Bridel aikido dojo in 1989.
Scheuren Sensei attended and organised numerous seminars around the world and was influenced by esteemed teachers such as N. Tamura, S. Sugano and Y. Yamada. Over the years, he rose through the Aikido ranks, achieving Godan (5th Dan) in 2006 and Rokudan in 2013. In 2018, he was appointed Shihan by the Doshu of Aikikai and honoured with several awards, including the "Médaille du Mérite Sportif en Vermeil" in 2011 by the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
Throughout his career, Scheuren Sensei has dedicated himself to teaching and spreading Aikido in Luxembourg and internationally.
Thanks to Holger (PSV Heidelberg e.V. Sansuikai Dojo Cho), who organised the course as his farewell gift to our dojo.
We wish Holger much joy and happiness, even though he is retiring from Aikido for health reasons to pursue other interests.
