Welcome to the Year of the Horse, or more precisely the Year of the Fire Horse. Officially, it begins on 17 February 2026 and ends on 5 February 2027, but in practical everyday life in Japan, the whole of 2026 is considered the „Year of the Horse“. The annual zodiac signs „Eto“ (干支) are determined in Japan according to the Chinese calendar, which is based on the lunar cycle. The horse cycle takes place every 12 years. One of the four elements is always assigned to the zodiac sign; this year it is fire. This combination is repeated every 60 years.

In the Japanese zodiac, the horse (Uma) stands for energy, love of freedom and wanderlust - a sign for people who never stand still and love life in motion.
