The Aikido department of the PSV inaugurated the new dojo in its own way with a special weekend workshop: under expert guidance, with old and new friends and lots of fun. We would like to thank first and foremost Sakabe Sensei for his perceptive, spirited instructions, Karl Kiening for the organisation, Aika for translating and everyone who was there for their dedication!

Beginners, advanced students and real experts - everyone was able to take something away from these three days. Sakabe Sensei was particularly keen to teach "friendly" Aikido: without using too much force, relaxed and gentle. Many exercises on basic techniques were not only good for beginners. It was always impressive when the little older gentleman rolled three large uke across the mat at once with a friendly smile, even if not all of us were able to do the same!
Friends of bokken and jo also got their money's worth and were guided through a few katas in quick succession. Sakabe Sensei demonstrated numerous techniques and throws, Aika translated simultaneously, and without much chatter, we got down to practising. With friendly words (in Japanese, but supported by lively facial expressions and practical examples), Sakabe Sensei encouraged everyone present to do their best.
As organisers, we were particularly pleased that not only aikidoka from the PSV but also from the surrounding dojos took part in the workshop. We hope to be able to offer regular workshops at a high level in the future. And Sakabe Sensei also said goodbye to this sixth friendship workshop: "See you next year!"
