Handball: Away win in Mosbach makes perfect start to the season!

After last week's successful start to the season, the first men's team from Heidelberg-Leimen also won their first away game of the young season by a clear margin, securing their second win in their second game. The team is now in second place in the table and goes into the challenging games of the coming weeks with a tailwind.

The game followed a pattern that was probably already familiar to spectators of the previous week's game. Once again, the fans in the packed Mosbach arena were treated to a tight and fiercely contested game in the first half, with the final winner only emerging later on. The SG's defence had major problems preventing the physically strong Mosbach side from breaking through, especially in the opening spell, and the team from Heidelberg-Leimen did not yet find the desired effectiveness in attack either. Although they managed to adapt somewhat better to their opponents over the course of the first half hour, they could not manage more than a draw at half-time, which was brought about by a goal from their opponents in the last second and was a fitting reflection of the course of the game up to that point. After the restart, however, the tide gradually turned: the defence of the home team managed to produce more and more strong sequences, while at the same time the offence of the sparsely-staffed home team became less and less compelling. As a result, the visitors were able to build and maintain a narrow lead, which they were able to extend to 20:27 in the final eight minutes with a 0:4 run thanks to a decisive goalkeeper performance.

Next Saturday, they will now face TSV Buchen, who lost their first game by just one goal against the current leaders of the Rhein-Neckar-Tauber regional league, HG Königshofen/Sachsenflur. This game in front of a home crowd will be the first test and will show what is still possible for the SG team this season.

The players for SG Heidelberg-Leimen were: Matthias Schlöder and Pedro Alexander Borchert (both in goal), Marc Winterbauer (1), Christian Heck (2), Maurice Pape (3), Nikolaj Viktorov, Patrick Bitsch (3), Dominik Blocherer (1), Tobias Krams (6), Daniel Weigel (4), Patrick Koch (1), Lennart Fritz von Falkenhayn (4), Severin Billiger and Hagen Gutland (2).
